Week of August 13, 2017
Brothers and Sisters,
We had a wonderful, sad, and thanks-filled Sunday last week as we said good-bye to Fr. Mike and the Michie family. Thanks to all of you who came and worshiped and prayed and expressed your gratitude.
This week will have a very different focus. It's our annual Blessing of the Backpacks! This is a wonderful St. Andrew's tradition at which all the kids and youth, from pre-school on up, are invited to bring their backpacks up to the front of the altar before worship starts, and we will bless them and the backs that bear them. We will also have special prayers for all our teachers and educators. So don't miss that, and the other items highlighted below:
- Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday: Whether you've already started, are about to start, or have another week of summer, get the school year started off on the right foot at Blessing of the Backpacks Sunday. Don't forget your backpack, of course, but if you have friends, neighbors who are teachers, and they don't have a place to come, invite them too. We'll do blessings at the 9:15 and 11:00 am services.
- Silent Auction and Spaghetti Dinner: Our annual silent auction and spaghetti dinner is Friday, August 25 at 6:30 pm. All proceeds from this evening go to support our partner church and school in Belize. We have some great stuff up for auction (including a stay at Great Wolf Lodge) and a delicious dinner planned, but this is also an entertainment event. The prodigiously talented Jim Rommel will be providing music and entertainment. Go ahead and add it to your calendar now.
- Ministry Sunday: St. Andrew's Ministry Sunday is coming up on September 10. This is a great opportunity to commit to growing in your walk with Jesus by saying yes to new ministries and opportunities. It also always ends up being a fantastic morning for fellowship and catching up with friends.
- St. Andrew's Choir: St. Andrew's Choir is getting ready for the fall. Rehearsal resumes on August 29. Singing in the choir is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the worship service for yourself and fellow congregants, and is a great way to offer your gifts back to God. No auditions or prior choral experience is required, and the choir is understanding of busy schedules. If you're interested in being a part of this vital ministry, email our Music Minister, Laurie Gabriel.
I look forward to seeing you at worship this weekend. May the grace and peace of our Lord be with you this week.
In Christ, Andrew+
