Week of March 25, 2018
Brothers and Sisters,
This week at St. Andrew's (and throughout the Church), it's Holy Week and Easter. Here's the schedule, with a brief description of each service:
Maundy Thursday — 7 p.m., March 29
This beautiful and solemn service commemorates the Lord's witness of service and grace, including foot washing (which is optional), and the stripping of the altar following Holy Communion. Childcare available
Good Friday March 30
Stations of the Cross: 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Good Friday Liturgy: 12 noon and 7 p.m. Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession): At altar after liturgy Childcare available.
Easter Vigil — 8 p.m., March 31
This is the ancient, beautiful, and profoundly moving first service of Easter. It begins outside as we kindle the new fire, candlelight readings capturing the breadth of salvation history, baptism by immersion, and Holy Communion. Childcare will be available.
Easter Sunrise Service — 6:30 a.m.
The Bible tells us that it was at sunrise that the women who went to Jesus' tomb found it empty. At our beautiful, intimate, outdoor sunrise service on the front lawn, we'll hear the story of the resurrection of Son as the sun rises and brings the natural world to life. We'll have acoustic guitar music to accompany our worship, a short Easter sermon, and Holy Communion outdoors.
Easter — 8:00 am
Sometimes not having all the pageantry (and crowds) makes it easier to hear the glorious message of the gospel. The music at this service will be simply piano accompaniment of hymns. We'll also have an Easter sermon, and Holy Communion. Childcare is available in the nursery, but there is no Children's Church for preschool and elementary kids (they are welcome to join us for worship). This service will last approximately 45 minutes.
Easter — 9:15 am
The 9:15 service will begin with the flowering of the cross and continue with the traditional Easter liturgy, sermon, and Holy Communion. Musically, we'll include several of the traditional Easter hymns, but the arrangement and style of the music is more contemporary, led by our wonderful Praise Band. For kids we will have a Children's Sermon, Children's Church during the first part of the service, childcare for nursery-aged kids, and an Easter Egg hunt following the service at 10:30 am (don't forget to bring your baskets).
Easter — 11 a.m.
The 11 a.m. service will begin with the flowering of the cross and continue with the traditional Easter liturgy, sermon, and Holy Communion. Our choir will lead our music. For kids we will have a Children's Sermon, Children's Church during the first part of the service, childcare for nursery-aged kids. Don't forget to come early (and bring your Easter baskets) to participate in the Easter Egg before the service at 10:30 am.
Throughout the week our Lenten Devotional series by St. Andrew's members will be wrapping up. You can see all these videos on our YouTube page or our Facebook page. In addition to the information above, our website, has lots of information about events coming up after Easter, as well as recent sermons.
May the love of our Lord, who died for us that we might be raised with him, fill your life the rest of this week.
In Christ, Andrew+
