Letter from Bishop Sumner Regarding Yesterday's McKinney North Shooting

06.03.18 | Weekly updates | by Bishop Sumner

Letter from Bishop Sumner Regarding Yesterday

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It was with great sadness that I heard about the suicide of the high schooler yesterday. We do not know the exact circumstances but, regardless, we pray for the repose of his soul and consolation for his family.

We all need to keep an eye out for signs of depression among young people. Our
own sense of the great need for the witness of peace, grace, and healing which the Gospel offers is redoubled. As the people of God in McKinney you will, I am confident, discern the personal doors the Holy Spirit is opening for you to minister.

You all remain in my prayers, peace,
    +GRS
Message from Fr Andrew's re: McKinney North Shooting Suicide Also, if you didn't see it on social media yesterday, here is an initial reflection I posted about the shooting. I echo the bishop's exhortation to prayer, particularly for our young people. Lord have mercy upon us.
